ICE CRYSTAL MERMAID 4 by wingdthing ICE CRYSTAL MERMAID 4 by wingdthing
New sculpt for the week of 12/16/09. One of a kind polymer clay fantasy sculpture by Nicole West.

I honestly think this is the most beautiful face I've ever done. Enjoy.

I agree, many of the faces are very pretty. This one does have stunning eyes/lashes. I don't know how you could sculpt in that little of space between her face and shoulder though. I really like the skin coloring on this one - great colors. Has a pearl effect without being cheap looking. Lovely as always my dear!

Thank you! Oh I do the detail sculpting before setting her into the final pose. It's not as mysterious as it seems. ;)

So the head/neck would be sculpted and then baked before adding the base? Just blend into the neck? This stuff baffles me - I've tried and am not a fan. lol.

Yes, I always cure the head so that it doesn't get ruined during the attachment to the body and then final positioning. There is a liquid called Sculpy clay softener. If you rub a small amount of that onto the bottom of the head and jawline it helps make the uncured clay stick to the cured clay really well. Little things like that help immensely.

Oh I know, everyone has their favorites. But as the artist, this is my personal favorite, ever. She pierces through my heart everytime I look at her.

How do you do such incredible work.

Too bad everything is CGI now. You'd have made a killing in films.
